FastLife has been organising speed dating and singles events across the globe for over 8 years... in other words, we've seen a lot of first dates - some good, some not so good, but some utterly fabulous! So here are our 10 top tips for a successful first date. Read and learn, and then put our advice to the test at one of our upcoming events!

Throw out your check list! Keep an open mind about who your perfect match will be, it's about chemistry, not ticking boxes.

Keep it light. There's no need to discuss your nightmare ex from hell on your first date. Save politics and religion for later too.

Look the part. Whether you're dating one person, or ten in one night, dress to impress. If you look good, you'll feel good and exude the confidence that people find attractive.

Be interesting by being interested. Resist the urge to talk about yourself and try to listen, everyone has a unique story to tell.

Laugh and the whole world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone. Be upbeat, stay positive and see the glass as half full. Be fun to be around.
