Ask any single you know and they'll tell you -- the holiday season is the toughest time of the year to be without a partner.

Valentine's Day comes close but the festive month is when the emphasis is naturally on couples, families and children.

Many singles feel lonely and left out, especially if they don't have a family nearby or any children of their own.

VANCOUVER -- Doctors are the most likely to get pulses racing when it comes to dating potential, while politicians are among the last choices of the romantically inclined.

While the news about politicians may come as no surprise, survey results released this week by the speed-dating service FastLife and the online-dating giant Lavalife, are also encouraging for architects, who rate right up there behind doctors as being in the profession of choice for women choosing dates.

FastLife asked 400 of its male and female members whether 20 common professions were "sexy" to the opposite sex.

Doctors give us dating fever while politicians just leave us cold. A study conducted by FastLife on eligible professions revealed that doctors are the most dateable profession for both men and women, while politicians were ranked among the least desirable.
